Tournament Formats & Play Styles
1. League Table (Round Robin)
Every team plays against every other team in the tournament. Points are awarded as 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. The final rankings are decided by Points, Goal Difference, and Goals Scored. Fits up to a maximum of 20 teams.
2. Knockout Bracket (Single Elimination)
A classic cup bracket where losing teams are immediately eliminated. Requires a power-of-two number of teams (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, or 128 teams). If matches end in a draw, they can be settled using penalty shootouts.
3. Group + KO: World Cup Style
Teams are partitioned into balanced groups of 4 (e.g. 16 teams split into 4 groups). After playing a group stage, the top 2 teams from each group advance directly to the knockout bracket.
Matchup Starting Rounds:
• 8 teams $\rightarrow$ 2 groups $\rightarrow$ advances to Semi-Finals (SF)
• 12 or 16 teams $\rightarrow$ 3 or 4 groups $\rightarrow$ advances to Quarter-Finals (QF)
• 20, 24, or 32 teams $\rightarrow$ 5, 6, or 8 groups $\rightarrow$ advances to Round of 16 (R16)
4. Group + KO: Euro Style
Specifically designed for exactly 24 teams distributed into 6 groups of 4. The top 2 teams from each group advance automatically. Additionally, all third-placed teams are compared in a wildcard table, and the 4 best third-placed teams (wildcards/best losers) advance to form a complete 16-team Round of 16 bracket.
5. Group + KO: Europa League Style
Designed for exactly 32 teams divided into 8 groups of 4. The 8 group winners advance directly to the Round of 16. The 8 group runners-up are paired against the 8 third-placed teams in a 2-legged Play-off Round. The winners of these playoffs advance to meet the group winners in the Round of 16.
Match Legs & Scheduling Rules
Group / League Legs
Choose 1 Leg (each team plays against group/league mates once) or 2 Legs (Home & Away matchups). In 2-legged league tables, fixtures for the second leg are reversed.
Knockout Bracket Legs
Determine if knockout matches are single-leg matches or 2-legged home-and-away matchups. Aggregate scores are computed across the two matches to determine who advances.
Categories & Games Supported
BayFooty supports both physical sports like Football and virtual esports like Video Games (EA FC, eFootball, Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat, etc.).
Choosing the video game format enables customized layouts and leaderboards optimized for console matches.
Admin Console & Reshuffling Features
Live Match Controller
Click on any match card inside the admin console to update match state, record goal scorers, log assists, and finalize game scores.
Reshuffle 2nd Leg
For 2-legged league formats, admins can reshuffle the ordering pattern of second-leg games. This keeps the match calendar fresh by randomizing which gameweek matches are played in, while preserving scheduling integrity. Note: Reshuffling is only allowed if no second-leg matches have been played yet.
Rebalance Fixtures
If team rosters change or teams are added/removed in draft mode, clicking "Rebalance Fixtures" regenerates the match calendar while preserving any already played matches.
